gyda is a Brisbane buyers advocacy. Its old website was WordPress with a page builder, and on a phone the home page downloaded 22.7 MB before the main content appeared. Lighthouse scored it 15 out of 100. The brief was better SEO and better accessibility, and the site was in the way of both.
I redesigned the whole site and rebuilt it as a static one on the same kind of shared hosting, with the same pages, URLs and titles so search rankings carry over. Most of the old weight was a Vimeo hero video that sent about 19 MB to phones the moment the page opened. The new hero video is 1.2 MB, plays on desktop only and starts after the page has loaded. Phones get a photo. I also wrote some of the copy, shaped the UX and UI, and advised on the SEO.
The home page is now 152 KB on a phone, about 150 times lighter. The old site also ran Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and a Meta pixel inside Tag Manager. Only GA4 came back, and it waits for consent. The photography and the testimonial films are gyda’s own.
